Green Beans...It's What's for Dinner!

Carson's first experience with baby food was a pleasant one. I fed him his first baby food, green beans, on Friday, Feb. 5th. I was so excited that I had the food in my cabinet for weeks before! The doctor and nutritionist set up his diet to allow only 2 tablespoons of green beans, because we wanted to continue feeding him rice cereal in the mornings. So every evening for the past 2 weeks I have looked forward to going home and feeding Carson his "supper". He quickly developed a taste for them, after a few "yucky" faces, and now he eats with a smile on his face. He is always left wanting more! If you can imagine, 2 tbsp. is not very much, about half a small jar.

For a while, he started wearing his "big boy britches" and decided he was too big for a bottle. I tried a sippy cup, a regular cup, a different nipple, but nothing helped. I don't know if his taste was changing or what was going on, but I was getting a little concerned. It was getting very hard to get him to take his formula, and he would even spit it out or make faces. That formula is his MAIN source of protein...no alternatives! Of course I called our precious nutritionist at UAB, (whose phone I frequently ring off the hook, bless her soul!) and she told me we could leave out a little of the protein-free formula and make 2 ounces less a day. Coincidence or not, Carson miraculously decided he would like a bottle again (thank the Lord!). Maybe that made it taste better or something. Anyway, Mommy is now breathing a sigh of relief. Tomorrow...adventures in squash begin!
